I focus on conserving biodiversity and wildlife populations to strengthen ecosystem resilience in the face of climate change. As an ecologist, I use novel techniques to answer policy-relevant questions about animal distribution, abundance, and behavior, and how unique populations may respond to changing ecosystem processes and human activities. At the same time, I recognize human interests as an essential part of the policymaking process, and study the economic impacts and policy dynamics relevant to specific management problems. I have a particular interest in marine mammal interactions with fisheries and in using remote sensing technologies to advance ecological research.
