Exercise programs to strengthen bones, balance offered in Juneau

An exercise program designed to strengthen bones by using gym weights, such as these, or an at-home program is set for Juneau.

缅北禁地 Cooperative Extension Service in Juneau is offering two exercise programs to help increase bone density. 

Sarah Lewis will lead the B3 (Better Bones & Balance) program, which offers a mix of strength and power training and group fitness activities. Participants will learn a research-based exercise and education program proven to maintain or increase bone density.

Every participant must apply for the program and be accepted based on a diagnosis of osteopenia, osteoporosis or risk of future bone loss. Contact Lewis at sarah.lewis@alaska.edu or 907-455-2010 for more information. 

Two sessions are offered:

B3 at Tongass Fitness is for those who want to become comfortable working in a gym with weights. Participants will meet from 8-9 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Oct. 27-Nov. 21 at Tongass Fitness, 5322 Shaune Drive, Juneau.

B3 with Bands is for those who want to learn workouts to do independently at home. Participants will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Oct. 27-Nov. 19 at Dzantik始i Heeni Middle School commons, 1600 Renninger St., Juneau. 

The cost is $121. Register with Juneau Community Schools at .
